Students attend 'Through the Fire' performance to end Hispanic Heritage Month
On the final day of Hispanic Heritage Month Wednesday, 207 Poughkeepsie High School students and several teachers attended a special performance at the Bardavon 1869 Opera House titled “Through the Fire.”
The show, which featured actor Victor Almanzar, delivered a powerful bilingual performance in both English and Spanish that captivated the audience from start to finish. Almanzar has acted in several movies, including “11:55,” and had multiple appearances in such hit television shows as “Empire,” Homeland” and “Power.”
Almanzar’s storytelling explored themes of resilience, peer pressure, identity and transformation. His performance captured diverse experiences that not only shape the Latino community, but also the community of many students.
The trip, which was orchestrated by the English and ENL department, provided students with a memorable opportunity to experience live theater, embrace Hispanic Heritage Month and connect with an artist who embodies strength and creativity.
